Part 7 of Q: The Music is now published. It's a bit of a long one (2000+ words!).

After a 6(!) month hiatus, the personal chart topper countdown is back with #132. An all-time favourite. Kept wanting to make a major feature out of this one, as Chalk Mark In A Rainstorm surely deserves it, but that'll have to wait for another time. I need to get on with these!

One of those very long pieces has just been added, this time on Madness and their 84-86 period. 2000+ words and several days in the making.

Tons of new stuff this week!
A Love Deluxe - outlining the homemade boxset addiction I suffer from, and stuff related to that. And then four featured Fantasy Deluxes from the 50 or so that I've done so far. Hope you enjoy them. It's a fresh way of looking and writing about stuff for me.

After a very long hiatus, the rundown of #1s from my personal chart is back...back....back!
We pick up where we left off in May 1988, with Scritti Politti's summer domination about to begin.

The 13th Fantasy Deluxe is now up (Danny Wilson). Not what I intended, but it would be boring if I didn't get sidetracked I suppose!

We've gone a bit "alternative" lately, with Siouxsie & The Banshees' #1 single Peek A Boo, and the 35th anniversary post for The Smiths' Strangeways Here We Come.
Next might be something on The Sisters Of Mercy.

Normal service will probably be resumed soon, having taken the last few weeks to do some different things:
The write-up for Erotica's 30th anniversary for Radio Creme Brulee's website, then the marathon 2-part interview/chat with Paul English from A Pop Fan's Dream (both parts now live on the blog), and I've also contributed to the "Eight Albums" project although that has yet to appear.
We're up to October 1988 with the look back at my #1s, and some of the big guns of 80s pop are lying in wait!

I'm going to go back and finish the "Q: The Music" series that I only got halfway through last summer. Fingers crossed! I did manage to get up to Part 8 (the year 2000), and I'm going to have another crack at finishing this before I do anything else. Also, reading back in this thread reminded me of the "Everything is Brucken" idea, which I'd totally forgot about. Quite like that concept!

Right, so we managed Part 9 of the Q:The Music series, which is something. Entering the final straight on that, and will make a change to talk about some music from the last 15 years.
In other news, as visitors to the blog will see, we have a brand new feature. You're My Number One, Too. Basically the same concept as with the run through all the #1s on my singles chart, only this time featuring the #1 albums. There will be fewer of them at first, until my LP-buying habits could really run wild, so I'll be adding in bits of trivia and more personal recollections to keep in interesting for readers!

It's been very quiet on the blog front, with no new articles for weeks. This can happen when real life intrudes too much and takes my limited reserves of time and energy. I did make creative use of some old articles and ideas to paper over the cracks in March, and thankfully the site's profile means it can take care of itself for a while and still find new readers, which is always gratifying.
But we do have something on the horizon very soon, another link-up with Radio Creme Brulee for a special feature to mark a classic album's anniversary. I also happen to have Super Deluxed it in the past, so a potential Erotica-style combo blogpost is a possibility.

The special feature in conjunction with Radio Creme Brulee was a write-up on David Bowie's Let's Dance LP to mark its 40th anniversary (christ that makes me feel old). www.radiocremebrulee.com/retrospectives/dancing-with-the-big-boys-david-bowies-lets-dance-at-40/At some point in the future I might combine it with the homemade SDE I did of LD a year or so back. For now, my Bowie focus has randomly shifted to 2003's Reality. I've got a potential 5 or 6 disc Super Deluxe of that in the pipeline. One old project that I have managed to turn into a full article is another of my Inbetweener NOWs. That went "live" today.

Very little in the way of new material lately, thanks to a mixture of writers block and the real-life stuff continuing its demands on my time and energy. I can dash off posts on music forums each day, but actually formulating a full-blown article or putting together a brand new project has been beyond me. It's starting to budge a little though, finally...and I almost have too many ideas now to know what to do first.
There's a chance I might start a new regular feature based on my (re)discovery of old C90 cassettes and the ability to enjoy them in surprisingly high quality through a beautiful vintage tape-to-tape deck I bought recently. And from that, a brilliantly simple website app that allows you to design J-cards (the inlays for a cassette) in a matter of minutes.
However, also very much on the horizon is the possibility of dipping my toes into the world of podcasts. The general idea is already there (this blog itself), the source of possible content likewise (charts, homemade deluxes, all the usual guff I post on AFDPJ). I spent years as a teenager making radio shows in my bedroom, attempting to become the next Gary Davies or Johnny Walker, so although that was a long time ago I've got previous in that respect.
We also have a name for it: Top Spot (as it will likely concentrate on full personal top 40s from my dim and distant past). Top Spot is of course a pallindrome, so it will be Welcome To The Pallindrome. I just hope nobody nicknames it Tosspot. I could have kept the amazinglyfewjukeboxes name for the podcasts but in rehearsals it was obvious that I would keep stumbling on the damn thing!
