A less challenging one....again to complement a deluxe I did for Junk Culture. It's OMD and Dazzle Ships: CD1 original. CD2 the 2008 remaster (minus bonus tracks). CD3 the bonus tracks plus other 7"s, 12s" and B-sides.

Actually, here's Junk Culture too. I thought I posted this before.... Again, fairly simple. CD1 is the original CD, plus some B-sides and the demos from the official Deluxe. CD2 is the single versions, extended mixes and anything else I could think of.

Thanks to the new Foreign Affair boxset, I've been able to cobble together this homemade "Ultimate Edition". It adds a couple of mixes not on the boxset, the non-album 1990/1991 singles (the Nutbush.. remix aside!), and uses some of the frankly gorgeous photoshoots from the campaign, instead of that terrible passport thing that looks like a Queen album cover.

Then the 4-disc Heart In Motion deluxe, again making use of the new reissue/expanded version but making some "improvements" (I think they make it better, but you may disagree!). The creation of this is on hold until my copy of the Every Heartbeat EU Maxi-CD single arrives from Germany.

And finally, the 1991 repeats of TOTP got me digging out the EMF albums for the first time in decades. Although it didn't feel like that when I was listening, could have been the other week the memories were so vivid of Schubert Dip in particular.
So, an EMF boxset is next on the agenda. 4 discs...
CD1: Schubert Dip: Expanded (album + three 7" edits) CD2: Stigma: Expanded (album + one 7" edits & EP tracks) CD3: Cha Cha Cha: Expanded (album + 7" edits & the Vic Reeves collaboration). CD4: The remixes (CD2 of the 2CD Epsom Mad Funkers Best Of release)
I'll probably also burn a CD-R of CD1 for Epson Mad Funkers, as I bought the lossless download version.

I have to admit I am not a fan of anything on Foreign Affair apart from the the title track and Falling Like Rain which is basically in my Tina Top 5! It's all just too bland and The Best leaves me cold but I totally understand it's success

Plus, Steamy Windows and Undercover Agent. I'm not big on the ballads on this album, but then I have never been a ballad man.

EMF boxset, still a work in progress... I could have gone a couple of ways with this...in the end, I made a 2CD longbox for the official Epsom Mad Funkers Best Of (2-disc edition), taking the same artwork and expanding on it to fit the dimensions. That left the 3 expanded albums, and also enough other mixes to create a "Remixes Pt.2" which I've added on to the "Complete Albums" collection as the 4th CD. Another option would have been a straight 6-disc boxset (a la Bros), with the Best Of included in that. Would have made for a bit too much repetition though.

While I'm at it, here's the 2CD Best Of. Took me a while to restore the artwork to something close to flawless (the largest version of it I could find online was a right state).

Eventually got around to finalising the 3rd disc's tracklisting... 01 Genetic Engineering [312mm mix] aka the 12" version 02 4-neu 03 Telegraph [7" mix] from Souvenir 04 66 And Fading [Edit] from Navigation: B-Sides 05 Telegraph [12" mix] 06 66 And Fading 07 Swiss Radio International 08 Telegraph [1988 Best Of OMD Extended Mix Edit] 09 The Romance Of The Telescope [1981 Version) 10 Of All The Things We've Made [1981 Version] 11 Telegraph [The Manor Version 1981] The 1981 versions of Telescope and Of All.. are different enough to warrant being included. And I sort of still prefer them. Same with the 1981 demo of Telegraph, I think there are some rhythmic ideas they should have kept for the finished 1983 version, and it might have sounded more in tune with the chart landscape of the time.

Provisional tracklisting for my 2CD "Best Album Tracks Of 1986" set:
CD1: Two Divided by Zero Pet Shop Boys 3:35 The Balance Of Love (Give And Take) Howard Jones 4:29 Don't Lose Your Head Queen 4:39 Maximum Joy Frankie Goes To Hollywood 5:30 Tinder Hipsway 5:15 Twilight Of A Champion The The 4:22 Running Scared Nik Kershaw 5:04 The Weight Of The Wind a-ha 4:02 Winter Marches On Duran Duran 3:26 The Queen Is Dead (Take Me Back To Dear Old Blighty) The Smiths 6:25 Room Full Of Mirrors The Pretenders 4:36 Soul Standing By Billy Idol 4:37 Hung Up On Your Love Eric Clapton 3:54 The Flat Horizon Wang Chung 4:53 Only A Vision Daryl Hall 4:34 Touch The Night Neil Young 4:32 Swimmer The Big Dish 5:25
CD2: Goddess Of Love Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark 4:31 New Dress Depeche Mode 3:46 Talk More Talk Paul McCartney 5:18 Last Night Chris de Burgh 6:09 Heaven Only Knows Electric Light Orchestra 2:57 Love On The Run The Human League 3:54 Will She Just Fall Down 'Til Tuesday 2:53 I Hope You're Happy Now Elvis Costello & The Attractions 3:08 All Day Long New Order 5:13 I Remember You Eurythmics 5:03 My Love's Leavin' Steve Winwood 5:21 You Are The One Mike + The Mechanics 3:36 Two Roads Chris Rea 3:44 Killer Blow Sade 4:37 Happiness Is Easy Talk Talk 6:31 The Seer [ft. Kate Bush] Big Country 5:20 This Is The Picture (Excellent Birds) Peter Gabriel ft. Laurie Anderson 4:26
I've played through most of CD1 so far, but the rest may be subject to last-minute changes.
As ever, the criteria is any track on album released in the UK during 1986, that wasn't a UK A-side at any time (which explains the absence of favourites from Invisible Touch, Eurythmics' Missionary Man and a-ha's Manhattan Skyline).

Now that it's finished, a few tweaks to report. CD1 almost stays the same...just Wang Chung and Clapton swapped around. CD2 ended up a little different... Goddess of Love New Dress SAME DIRECTION - INXS Love On The Run Talk More Talk Heaven Only Knows You Are The One Will She Just Fall Down I Hope You're Happy Now All Day Long I Remember You Two Roads Killer Blow My Love's Leavin' Happiness Is Easy The Seer Excellent Birds Could have possibly snuck one more sub-5 minute track in, but nothing that I was satisfied would keep the flow. The De Burgh track sadly had to go.

Spent some time rounding up projects that didn't get completely finished (and/or committed to disc) and printing up some more sleeves. Always feels satisfying to have the completed project in a case, on the shelf.
The EMF studio albums set should be done soon, as I put the last touches to Cha Cha Cha tonight. What an underrated album (and band, in fact).
Next up will be a 4-disc Division Bell by Pink Floyd (1994 album, 2011 remaster, singles/b-sides, The Endless River) and possibly a Break Every Rule deluxe to go alongside the Foreign Affair one I recently made.
Plus I need to create artwork for The Best Album Tracks Of 1986.

Sparked by the acquisition of Take It Back [Single Edit] on the CD single. I already had High Hopes/Keep Talking edits, plus the Live b-sides. Factor in some tracks from The Later Years box, and Nick's your drummer.

Just finished compiling this... The front artwork is based on the 12" single of Break Every Rule. To "facilitate" two discs, Don't Turn Around has been moved onto CD1 as a bonus track, which kind of works since it's the only (studio) B-side on the set. The two Mad Max songs ended up on this rather than a Private Dancer deluxe (which is still to come), likewise the 1985 We Are The World track. I kept the 12" of We Don't Need.. on this because those extra 2 minutes are actually my favourite bit. For some reason, none of the 6 (?) UK singles from Break Every Rule made the Top 20. A #30 hit was the biggest, I think. Which sort of matches the way I totally underappreciated it at the time (it wasn't until a school friend talked me into listening to his copy almost a year later that I realised it was pretty good). It's arguably aged better than Private Dancer. No weak songs (Till The Right Man... is a bit naff, but still okay). The 12" mixes of the title track and Two People are superb. Someone should do a mash-up of the latter and Bill Wither's Lovely Day - they share the exact same tempo and chord sequence. Paradise Is Here has proven to be a bit of a hidden gem (I know it was a single, but it got nowhere and the 16 yr old me thought it was music for old people or something). Essentially, I really enjoyed putting this one together....the ones which reveal an album to be better than you always thought it was are usually the most fun.
