We're S H O P P I N G.... This is one I started prepping a year ago but somehow contrived to forget about (maybe the complete TSC singles anthology project left me Councilled out).

Time to round up a few other projects that I started but never finished until now... This was originally going to be a 3-disc set. The unremastered version, the 2003 remaster, and then a disc of extra stuff that made use of last year's "A&M: The Singles" compilation and combined with the rest of the B-sides and bonus material from the 2003 issue. Then I considered adding the audio disc of Architecture & Morality and More live recording from 2008 (which came as a CD/DVD format). But on the recommendation of folks from the Steve Hoffman forum I picked up the Live At The Royal Albert Hall release, from 2016, which saw the band play both A&M and Dazzle Ships in full. It really is an excellent sounding concert, so the A&M material is now the fourth CD on this deluxe.

At the end of 2021, I planned to make deluxes of all the (regular) Madness albums. But as ever, I got sidetracked. 1984's Keep Moving is an interesting one, with its odd history and sense of missed opportunities. Once I discovered there was a quite different US version of it, with the 1983 "orphan" singles rightly included, and a running order that makes so much more sense, that was my next project sorted. So it's the original album on CD1, the US version on CD2, and the usual B-sides/Remixes on the third disc. CD3 did have Wings of a Dove and Sun And The Rain 7" mixes, but they're on the US disc in the same versions so no need to keep them on it. Victoria Gardens really ought to have been released as a single, if not in 1984 for whatever reason Stiff Records deemed it a bad idea, then at least in early 1987 to perhaps boost sales of the Utter Madness compilation on which the 7" remix made its belated debut.

Fantasy Deluxe #11 is up...Cyndi Lauper...getting a lot of interest and feedback on this one, which is nice. Meanwhile, my Phil Collins binge is almost at an end...finished his book "Not Dead Yet", and a 6CD But Seriously is nearly done. Also on the horizon, some more Duran Duran action: I may have a stab at Big Thing after this, especially as it's an album I never really got into at the time. Those can be the most fun to do.

..and Big Thing will look something like this: 3 audio discs (original 1988, remaster and B-sides/remixes), and then the 1988 concert tour on the DVD. Notorious is going to be 5 audio discs (1986 original, 2010 remaster, singles, remixes, Beacon Theatre 1987) and one DVD (Working For The Skin Trade, most probably).

Anthology updates! Duran's Notorious is complete: I didn't much care for the Remix EP but it's there for completism's sake! A 4-disc deluxe of Heaven 17's Luxury Gap is one that's been sitting unfinished for a while, but is now done: (The usual format...original CD - which sounds fantastic....remaster, then two discs of remixes and edits etc. Again, not that fond of the 1992 Brothers In Rhythm remixes but I included them all the same. Finally, a random charity shop find - The One (MCA American pressing) got me thinking of a deluxe for that. All the extra material he put on soundtracks, boxsets and The Very Best Of during 1990/91 made a whole disc of their own.

Thanks to nlgbbbblth for setting my mind working on some Peter Gabriel stuff. First I redid the final/6th/bonus disc of my So SDE, adding in the 1987 mix of Biko from the single as well as the edit of Don't Give Up from NOW 8, and rejigging the track order. Disc SixCourage remixes, b-sides and non-album singles01 Courage 02 Walk Through The Fire single version 03 I Have The Touch '85 remix 04 Sledgehammer extended version 05 Don't Break This Rhythm 06 Don't Give Up edit 07 In Your Eyes single version 08 Big Time extended version 09 Curtains 10 GA GA i go swimming 11 Sledgehammer dance mix 12 In Your Eyes special remix 13 Biko '87 version 14 Courage radio edit And then I set to work on a similar set for the US album. The LP itself was 1992, but there was so much material either side of that - going back to 1989/90 in one direction (Shaking The Tree, Here Comes The Flood '90) and up to the OST songs like Taboo and Lovetown the other way in 1994. They feel like they all belong in the same (rather long) era. Early days yet, and I haven't settled on what tracks to put on which discs, or even how many discs to make it in all. But we do have a design concept and a punsome title! US+, or PLUS. CD1 will be the 1992 version of the album. CD2 is the 2002 remaster and then....it gets more complicated. Most of the singles had edits and various remixes. Add in the soundtrack stuff, the non-album recordings, some demos, duets with "world music" artists. Plenty of scope.

PG has been flipped... It'll be 6 discs...original master, 2002 remaster, some single mixes and non-album 45s, remixes etc, and a final disc with the "ME" interview from 1994.

The ongoing conundrum that is my attempt to deluxe Ten Summoners Tales by Sting takes a new twist.
It WILL be 6 discs, after all, but not all of them audio. 4 CDs, plus the TST longform video and Ten Summoners Travels as well.
Have also reworked the sleeve design. It was all a bit black.

A few projects coming to the boil... 6-disc Pipes of Peace deluxe. Including the Hi-Res downloads on physical media. Took me a while to figure out how to do it, and then I tried another method (simply burning them to a data DVD) and that worked too! Eventually, I will finish my Press To Play deluxe as well. Also nearly complete is: I just need to find where I put my NOW2 CD for the Wouldn't it be Good edit. Finally, a result of the complete shambles that is the new Go West boxset, is that I decided to make something fun of my own.... It's not a deluxe as such. And it completely avoids anything from the unlistenable mess of that official boxset. Everything is from original 80s CDs, or the 1993 Aces & Kings, or the 2CD Music Club Deluxe comp that basically used the 80s mastering as well. The concept was to substitute as many of the 9 tracks with different versions to the original LP....be it a 7" remix, an alternate edit, or a 12" version. 2 of the tracks only exist in album form, but it's an enjoyable alternative to the album.

Time for an update or three... Now this one took ages to piece together, once I discovered all the mixes that were available. And with one disc left to complete, I found out there were even more...Bye Bye Baby had several...so this is a revised version with those added in. Just as well it's my favourite Madonna album. (I might also do a full blogpost on this one in the future). By contrast, a 4-disc Blue Lines deluxe was positively straightforward... Nothing too fancy, just the original version, the 2012 remix/remaster, and two discs covering the mixes and B-sides from the era.

Bryan Ferry's two 80s solo albums have also been under the afdpj microscope... I wanted to do them chronologically, but that meant waiting ages to source all the 12" mixes and B-sides from the Boys & Girls era. Some I needed to buy from abroad, some I had (but only in storage). So in the meantime, I set to work on Bete Noire. The usual format - original CD, the remaster, and then a disc of the edits/remixes/B-sides. The Limbo mix is quite brilliant, and I rate Kiss & Tell much more highly than I used to. As a bonus I put the tour film of Bete Noire onto a 4th disc, or I would do if I could transfer the VHS. I may get around to it someday. Then finally all the Boys & Girls puzzle pieces came together... I'd forgotten how many of the rarer tracks on the 3rd disc I already had, but was still able to add an alternate mix of Help Me, and the full Windswept EP (Broken Wings was a rare time when I had to fall back on a YouTube rip when all else failed). As with Bete Noire's artwork, I went for something a bit different to the existing cover(s).

More 90s efforts this week....first, the solo debut from Massive Attack vocalist Shara Nelson from 1993: Creating the Blue Lines deluxe obviously reminded me of how much I liked What Silence Knows a couple of years later. I had the album, but none of the singles. A chance search for those online netted me a bundle of all but one of them, so I just needed to add the missing release and voila...two whole discs' worth of extra mixes. The sleeve is a variation of the original, with a new colour border and the pose from the Uptight single cover.
