Can be right now, today, this week, recently... anything that's been played on LP/CD/mp3 or listened on via Spotify etc.
My most recent CD spins have been:
The Beloved - Happiness (2020 Remaster) Yes - 90125 (Target edition) David Cassidy - Romance (2012 Reissue) Climie Fisher - Everything (1988 original)
plus a ton of Sting tracks, as part of a mammoth Ten Summoners Tales "Super Deluxe" that I'm working on. Including three versions/mixes of Nothing bout Me in a row, and they're all different! Crazy...

"This week I have been mostly listening to"
Gabrielle's first two albums. Always been a fan but have never properly bothered diving into her albums. Discovering so many good songs!

I kind of forget about her 2nd album, is that the self-titled one? The debut was big, and Rise seemed to be around for years.

A contrast for me: Rick Wakeman - No Earthly Connection - for the very first time.
Rumer's recent Nashville Tears has captivated me ... some amazing songs.

Most recently.....
Scritti Politti Cupid/Provision era (I never knew he had a breakdown mid-Provision which was the reason for the huge gap until Anomie..) Anything Philippe Zdar and Andrew Weatherall were ever involved in. Bertine Zetlitz All things twee and pastoral from The Field Mice to El Perro Del Mar.

Rick Wakeman - No Earthly Connection - for the very first time. Slightly related, I'm back on a bit of a Yes binge (or intending to start one). Usually happens when I get the Ultimate Music Guide magazines off the shelf every once in a while. I bought a Target pressing of 90125 (always my Yes album), but I've got the Warners boxset and just added the "Essentially Yes" mini set which covers the *difficult* 90s era.

Yes, I sort of remember interviews for Anomie making oblique references to Green retreating back to Wales and getting away from the music biz after Provision. I suppose the inference was that he had a breakdown of some sort, trying to create the perfect pop record.

I think it was more to do with the pressure of all the promotional work (he describes being on morning TV in America when he barely knew what city he was in) He ended up in hospital on his way to a video shoot for one of the Provision singles and his 80s career more or less ended that day. He also felt that he was kind of winging it when surrounded by people like Miles Davis and Arif Mardin, not exactly full of confidence I'd say. He then disappeared to a life of a hermit in Wales drinking ale and listening to hip hop for a VERY long time. I find stories like this so interesting.....the music was impeccable and initially quite successful , he looked and sounded amazing but it all started falling apart very quickly after the first album. He used to hang out with George Michael a lot, I can only imagine the bitching about the music industry!

I think we *lost* a lot of the most interesting acts because of that, it burned them out or made them disillusioned, or the labels didn't like it when the acts wouldn't go along with every stupid request from the TV/radio stations.

I've been building up to digitizing Gabrielle's entire output, which I thankfully have been collecting for years, so I think I have everything... but wasn't aware of this version? It seems to be German and there are copies on Discogs from UK sellers, starting at 40p, so not difficult to find. My own copy of 'Gabrielle' is the limited 2CD version, which has a bonus disc of 3 acoustic versions, which is nice... and rarer, I'd say!
There's a remix of 'If You Ever' that was on the cassette single only here, but I recently discovered there's a Euro 2 track CD that features it. I want that, but begrudge paying £7+ postage for a copy!

I think I might have to get some version of that Gabrielle CD. It's got my favourite single of hers on it (though obviously I have that on her Greatest Hits, but completism etc).

Forget About The World is such a brilliant song, I love any version of it to be honest but I think the Trevor Horn version has that extra dramatic edge. Daft Punk turned down most remix requests but not Gabrielle so that's saying something!!

It's track 16 on the CD I have, it’s the 4.23 version, maybe my version is a reissue of ‘Gabrielle’, it’s got Walk On By on there as well. I think it’s her best album. I am a fairweather fan to be honest, I do find the songs a bit bland a lot of the time despite her gorgeous voice but the Frankie Knuckles remix of Sunshine gets a lot of play in these parts.
